And So It Begins
Ok,
so I need to get better at updating our blog! We have been pretty busy, so here
is an update on the cabin.
With
the concrete footers in and inspected, we have started the building process.
6x6 posts were mounted to the piers and the outer band of the cabin was
attached to the posts with a combination of carriage bolts and lag bolts. Once
the band was attached and level, we were able to start hanging the joists.

2x10
pressure treated lumber is a bit pricy, and the hardware was more expensive
than I expected, but little by little, we got the joists in position.

It may
seem as if we are moving very slowly on this (it does to me) but remember that
this is by design. The idea is that we are paying for this as we go with no
loans or incurred debt. It is going to take a while, but when it is complete,
it will be ours free and clear.

I can’t even describe how nice it is to see the
cabin start to take shape. We still have to close in the bottom (because it is
on piers) and insulate the floor before we can put the subfloor down. Once that
is finished, we go vertical!
