Bed Storage

As we have started the transition into making this tiny home a reality we realized that many of the space saving options didn’t really save us any space. The space saving furniture and ideas were designed for regular sized rooms in regular sized homes, you know, homes that have room for nightstands and dressers, both of which are luxuries that we are leaving behind. Tiny house means a tiny bedroom. Our 8 foot by 10 foot bedroom is easily fullest room in the house.

Once again my amazing husband has outdone Pinterest by building me a gas-shock-assisted lift bed, with storage. This jewel serves as our dresser for folded clothes, hides my shoes, cookbooks, and the less used kitchen appliances I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of (like my grain mill).

Terry also made night stands that did not take up precious floor space and worked with our high bed.  Needless to say I love it and it came out just like I wanted.

Well, Well, We Have a Well

The last major piece to our puzzle was getting some running water. The first well company must not have wanted our business because they just didn’t show up. With a recommendation from a friend, we hired a second company, and thankfully, they got to work.

I drove out to the farm after work one evening, and there was the truck. All set up and already making progress. I got a call the next day letting me know that they had gone to 300 ft. and were getting a steady 6-7 gallons per minute. Every gallon per minute is equivalent to 1,440 gallons of water every day. Multiply that out and we have access to about 10,000 gallons of water each day. I don’t think we will use quite that much.

Part of my plan was to place the expansion tank under the hot water heater which I had built on a raised platform. I wasn’t sure how well it was all going to work out, but it fit perfectly! We have clear, cold water flowing to the cabin, and it tastes great!
